PTA News
Halley reported that Watch Dog Dad is tonight and Stem night is next week. PTA needs lots of volunteers to take various chair positions. Book fair was a success. Made about $1,500 which will allow them to give the students each $5 for a book in the spring.
Principal News
Boundary proposals-updated proposal would combine Granite and Park Lane into one school and leave Willow Canyon alone. Attendance at community meetings is encouraged.
School Safety Final Plan
Halley showed the district website for school safety. As a district the safety committee meets at least once a month. November drill at the school will be a bomb threat with an evacuation. We are using Crisis Go app to show accountability for students. Guardian plan is one that we have to follow – There are employees in the school who are armed. Until their training takes place they are not true armed guardians. There are two guardians per building. Safety is an ongoing discussion in our school.
Number 1 safety concerns – doors are old and the crash bars are failing.
Other concerns: glass windows in doors aren’t bullet proof. Anna Hirschi and her martial arts does a program to teach how to disarm a gunman. We are going to look into this.
Digital Citizenship Final Plan
1.Thrive time – taught once a week and at the end of each unit there is a digital citizenship lesson
- Lynette Baird – incorporates digital citizenship in her monthly lessons that she presents to each class.
- Parent square once a month
- website/social media
- Landschool is used for teachers to monitor the students online
- This week is digital citizenship week – morning messages on the intercom and a video clip was put on the broadcast
Safe Walking Routes Plan
Possibly make the exit from the school as a right turn only. There are concerns that parents would not follow this. Concerns that parents would either still turn left or they would be doing U turns or using the church parking lot to flip around. The signs on the fence between us and Waterford make it difficult to see as well as the construction vehicles. Both of these make it hard for our parents to pull out safely.
We are going to leave the plan the same as last year.
Review of council’s stewardship items – Land Trust Funds, TSSA budgets,
We are getting a new system so we don’t have access to all of our accounts right now and know where our budget is currently at. Halley handed out the budgets and reviewed them with the committee. With the new system we will have access to more real time data.
Cell Tower
-We have $37,000
-Choir will come out of this and will be about $3,000
-Book Blitz – we have hired someone for this! Sydni Wood will do Book Blitz and also our second math aide.
-$2,000 has been approved to move over to the principal discretionary to spend for the teachers at Christmas.
