Our theme this year is

I Can Be a Shining Star and Follow the Wildcat Way!

We are committed to ensuring all students are successful and grow and develop, both academically and socially, in a safe, supportive school environment. We are very appreciative of the support you provide as parents-your children benefit in many ways when we are partners and focused on their successes.

Willow Canyon Wildcats are:

If you are responsible, your teachers and parents can count on you to; 1) do what you say, 2) give your best effort, and 3) take care of the things you are accountable for doing. A responsible person is also able to independently make good choices.  If they make a mistake, they answer for their own behavior - they don't make excuses.

We behave in ways that keep us safe and those around us from being harmed.

Being respectful means treating others in a thoughtful and kind way.  It means we treat others the way we would like to be treated.

Thank you KSL Morning News, Lori Prichard, Andrew Wittenberg, Shara Park, and Grant Weyman for coming back and being part of our assembly to introduce our buddy bench! The morning news team rocks!

KSL News and Harlem Globetrotters

Willow Canyon was lucky to have a visit from KSL Morning News (Lori Pritchard, Andrew Wittenburg and Shara Park) as well as a member of the Harlem Globetrotter team. One of our 3rd graders, Qwade, received the “High Five” award from KSL for working with the principal to implement a “Buddy Bench” out on our playground. This bench will be a place where students can go if they don’t have anyone to play with, then others can go and invite them to join in on their games. Quade read about “Buddy Benches” in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid book and wanted to have one at our school as well.

The member of the Harlem Globetrotter team, “Buckets,” spoke to the students about the importance of standing up to bullies and what to do when they see others not being treated kindly. “Buckets” taught them the “ABC’s” of bullying-Action, Bravery, and Compassion.

This assembly was recorded by KSL news and will be aired on Monday, February 6th at 5:45 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. It might also be on during their evening news broadcast. Set your DVR’s to record it.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to another amazing Willow Canyon school year! We are excited that your children will be attending school with us.  We want you to know that we are dedicated to ensuring your child has a positive and successful learning experience.  The support you provide is greatly valued and makes a difference for your child’s success.

As your child’s school, our primary goal is to understand and meet student needs for learning.  Willow Canyon offers a multi-tiered system of supports involving enrichment activities to extend student learning strengths, and focused interventions to support specific learning needs.  We provide positive behavior interventions and supports and teach your child how to manage his or her own behavior during the school day.  Willow Canyon teachers are knowledgeable, dedicated, talented, and maintain high achievement expectations for all students.  We want every student to be successful.

We are focused on meeting Canyons School District’s goal of every student being college, career, and citizenship ready when they graduate from high school. Elementary school provides the important foundation required for students to meet this goal.

The Willow Canyon community is wonderful!  We feel fortunate to have the support that is provided from the families and also the PTA and School Community Council. We value the partnership we have with each of you, as well as our shared goal of every child feeling valued and being successful.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Marilyn Williams, Principal

Thank you Miss Winter for making Willow Canyon a Common Sense Digital Citizenship Certified School and teaching us about Internet safety!

Link to sign up as a volunteer to go on field trips, help during PTA activities, or help in classrooms. This process has to be completed every school year, it doesn't carry over from year to year.
